English as a Second Languages - (Wizard ESL)

Wizard’s ESL curriculum is a ten level integrated skills program that includes speech, conversation, pronunciation, reading, writing and grammar. In addition to these ten core courses students are encouraged to enroll in intermediate and advanced skills and special interest courses that will allow students to better develop there skills and prepare for transfer or a career. Some of these offerings include: Fluency 1 & 2 (Intermediate & Advanced Pronunciation & Vocabulary), Academic Reading and Writing Skills, Academic Readiness, Introduction to Computers, Study Skills, History, American Culture, Idioms & Slang, Slang & American Cinema, Business English and Translation and Interpretation. Students earn a certificate for each level they successfully complete. Students who complete 520 hours (26 credits) of the core program and an additional 280 hours (16 credits) for a total of 840 hours (44 credits) will receive a certificate of English and American Cultural Studies. (Certain classes are required; students should consult an admissions official for more details.)

Foreign Languages

Wizard offers Foreign Language classes including Portuguese and Spanish. Our Foreign language classes include history and culture of the country/countries of your target language and conversation practice and instruction with a native speaker of your target language. Foreign Language classes are small and are also available in private lessons or onsite lessons.

Teacher Education & Development

We believe that teacher education is very important. Wizard offers Introduction to Teaching English (TEFL/TESOL) and Introduction to teaching grammar courses. A minimum of a high school diploma is required. An associates degree or higher is recommended. Teacher Development workshops are geared specifically towards teaching ESL/EFL to adults are also held periodically. (The TEFL/TESOL courses are intended for persons who wish to pursue a teaching career abroad. Some countries may require a bachelor’s degree or other specific credentials).

Test Prep – TOEFL – TOEIC – Citizenship Test

Preparing for a test can be difficult but you don’t have to do it alone! Our caring, professional and experienced instructors will offer you feedback, practice and guidance. Test prep courses are available in private lessons and small groups.

Wizard Study and Credit Hours

Wizard calculates a study hour as one whole hour or 60 minutes which is different than most programs. Most programs calculate using clock or credit hours using forty minutes as an hour.
