Wizard Youth Language & Culture Programs


Wizard youth programs are designed to teach language through cultural exploration. They are fun and enriching. We have programs for age 7 through teen! Courses include all materials and are 80 hours each session. Multiple sessions may have different activities and presentations. Courses are $350 for 80 hours and payment plans are distributed throughout course. Multi-child and AAA discounts available!

Youth Summer Day Session 1 – June 22nd to July 23rd

  • Beginner Portuguese for Kids
    Mondays - Thursdays from 8 am to 12 pm $350 - 5 weeks
    Fun cultural based bi-lingual program, includes Brazilian music, history and geography. Students will learn the alphabet, numbers, colors, food words, family words, how to form questions and basic conversations for travel. Ages 7 – 11
  • Portuguese Literature (in English)
    Mondays – Thursdays from 8 am to 12pm $350 - 5 weeks
    Students will explore classic and modern Portuguese literature through group reading and group discussions. Open to students reading at a 7th grade level or higher.
  • Introduction to Portuguese
    Teens – Mondays - Thursdays from 8 am to 12 pm $350 for 5 weeks
    Introduction to integrated skills Portuguese through cultural exploration. This course is a beginner course for English speakers. It includes reading, writing, listening and conversation in Brazilian Portuguese through an integrated skills approach. Open to students reading at a 7th grade level or higher.
  • Creative Writing – Kids
    Tuesdays – Thursdays from 8 am to 12 pm $350 for 5 weeks
    Students will enjoy classic and modern tales and learn to create their own stories through writing and drawing. Ages 7 to 11
  • Creative Writing – Teens
    Tuesdays – Thursdays from 8 am to 12pm $350 for 5 weeks
    Students will have fun expressing themselves while they explore different literary styles. Students will also read stories and view videos and react to them in writing in various forms.
  • ESL & Portuguese for GEN 1.5 teens
    Tuesdays - Thursdays from 8am to 12pm for 5 weeks
    This course is for students who speak Portuguese at home and are have been using English in an academic setting for a minimum of two years. Attention will be given to non-native speech and writing patterns in English and formal grammar and writing with be covered. Grammar and ESL will be separated in mini-sessions. Open to students reading at a 7th grade reading level or higher.
  • Brazilian Cinema & Culture Kids
    Tuesdays – Thursdays from 1pm to 5 pm for 5 weeks
    Brazilian Cinema & Culture Teens – Tuesdays - Thursdays from 1pm to 5pm for 5 weeks
    Students will explore culture through movies, art, stories and activities. Ages 7-11 or 7th grade and higher
  • American Movies & Stories – Kids
    Tuesdays - Thursdays from 1pm to 5pm for 5 weeks
  • American Cinema & Literature
    Teens Tuesdays - Thursdays from 1pm to 5pm for 5 weeks
    Students will watch classic and modern movies and listen to related stories, course includes students creating their own mini-movie and story as a group. Ages 7-11 or 7th grade and higher

  • Portuguese Literature & Writing (bi-lingual)
    Mondays – Thursdays from 1pm to 5pm $350 – 5 weeks
    This course is for advanced beginners to intermediate Portuguese learners. Students will read English/Portuguese text and Portuguese only text and write in Portuguese using intermediate grammar. This course is intended for generation 1.5 English/Portuguese speaking students and Intermediate Portuguese learners. Open to students reading at a 7th grade level or higher.

During the fall, winter and spring courses are generally offered weekday afternoons and Saturday mornings. Summer courses are available both morning and afternoon and in an accelerated format.

 

During the Summer we also run Fridays are Fun days for all of our students and their families. We offer a wide spectrum of cultural activities that include day trips, cultural celebrations, live music and performances. These one-day excursions or workshops may be purchased ala carte or in blocks at a discount. Click here for a registration form

Fridays are fun days is a series of activities that include trips, cutlural and music events at Wizard and other live performances and workshops.
Some events are open to families and some are only for youth participants.
